If they ever shut servers down we'd all be entitled to a full refund right? I mean we paid for a game and we should be able to play it whenever we want. Right.

You obviously didn't read the EULA or the fine print of it either.

If NCsoft want to go bold, they should for example:
- merge social networking such as Orkut/facebook and MMOs
- create the first significant MMO in Web2.0 (GW in your internet browser => have it on any platform! but that's not going to happen soon )
I would be surprised if GW2 didn't have something like that.

The only reason not to buy GW2 is, if the system requirements are that of the holo-deck from the federation starship.

That's why its poor to compare (or *call* it) an MMO: in terms of that, it's done very poor. If WoW put out numbers on how many copies it has sold - and since most people here would argue it was a terrible game - then it must be rich off of those copies alone. But that's not the case.

GW is a competitive rpg trying desperately to be an MMO, but failing rather miserably.
unless NCsoft owns the entire GW franchise, there's really nothing stopping anet from finding another distributor.

Doesn't sound like NCSoft is getting out of the market at all...
And, Moriz, NCSoft owns ArenaNet.
2002 Acquired American company ArenaNet which consists of the core developing members of StarCraft®, and Warcraft®
http://www.ncsoft.com/eng/nccompany/history.asp
They also now own Cryptic Studios, developers of CoH, CoV.

This rumor has all the markings of a trial balloon. I doubt NCSoft is suddenly going to drop their main source of income and plunge into another hypercompetitive market. At best, they might scale down their operations.
However, on a broader spectrum, the writing is on the wall for PC games. I assume (and hope) that NCSoft and ArenaNet are looking carefully at the emerging console MMO(RP)G market. The first company to make the WoW of consoles will win this generation.

Ugh, no thanks. The day GW resembles anything like MySpace or Facebook I'll be uninstalling it for sure.

Good for Ncsoft, better to not put all eggs within one basket, let them explore other online ventures, don't think they'll stop supporting games though. Plus it's only natural that their stock is in decline, when they've been riding on Linage1 for years and lineage2, did they really expect those games to keep them afloat even longer? If they did their fault. They are lucky that their country and surrounding countries strive for MMOs full of grind grind grind, you know how many make a living gold farming over there?

Wait, do you actually believe that this is true? lol, Re-read the EULA. You lost your money when you paid for GW.

I'm pretty sure eveyone who bought Guild Wars has gotten their money's worth.
2 years of Playing for $50?
Considering the price of Prophecy is now $9.99, I still think it's a great deal, even if the servers shut down in one month. (which they won't, so....)

Lost? You also lost the house and car you bought. Money on food is also lost, after all, once it's digested, it's down the toilet.
Guild Wars, and all other MMOs for that matter, even subscription based, do not buy the box. That one is free.
What you pay for, and possibly subscribe to, is the account.
The only box I've ever bought is the original one. Everything else from then on was from online store. The box really doesn't have any value.

Alas, that's what many online business are going for the last few months. It's ridiculously designed and they even enjoy the anarchy they created because it makes money! (and they're not bothered about people going crazy, so long as their lawyers protect them from being sued) I'm not defending the concept, I know which social networking sites to visit and which ones to avoid.
I was more suggesting a smart tool to make socialising in-game easier, e.g. integrate vent, or add a more extended chat. Social networking is extremely easy to GUI, but it's an art to balance it so that it doesn't become like the useless facebook! GW would still be a game, it'd be stupid to think that people would pay 10-30$/£ for an IM!

Seems to me it's some problem in Korea. I highly doubt Guild Wars would end because of this. And if it did, many players would be mad for spending $150+ on all the campaigns (4 million according to the Guild Wars PC Gamer edition). Who knows, that may even start a revolt.
